The Element of Surprise: First DanceThere’s nothing more awesome at a wedding than having the element of surprise. On a recent wedding I photographed the newlyweds gave their guests a jaw dropping experience. After the grand entrance, the entire wedding party was introduced and all the guests were seated. The slow music was playing and the clattering of salad forks and dinner plates were in the air. Then, the DJ changed the music to the theme of Superman. Slowly the wedding party started making their way to the dance floor. All the guests looked up from their plates and began questioning each other, wondering what was going on. Once each member from the party was in place, including the bride and groom, the DJ started playing the popular song, Gangnam style and the wedding party performed a choreographed routine!! If you are unfamiliar with the song, please search for it on YouTube. The beat is so catchy that the video went viral in a matter of a few short days. The guests were excitedly cheering on the wedding party as they performed their routine without missing a single step. The flash mob dance was a huge hit for the bridal party and guests. I suspect this wedding will be talked about for years to come. Another idea that was pretty cute and unique was when the bride and groom did their first dance; they started off with a slow song. In the middle of the song, the DJ quickly switched to a fast song, and the newlyweds broke out into a dance routine that had the guests yelling and clapping excited at the sudden change of pace. At the end of the bride and groom’s routine, the slow song resumed and the couple finished out their first slow dance as husband and wife. One couple had a fun another fun idea of having a Soul Train line and each person had the opportunity to have a solo dance as they made their way to the end of the line. It is so much fun watch grandparents, grandchildren, and even that cousin whom doesn’t dance make their way down the party line. It is tons of fun for the people participating in the dance line as well as onlookers not braves enough to get up and dance. Dancing is a universal theme to celebrate newly married couples. It’s a phase of the traditional wedding that everyone looks forward to. The bride gets to let her hair down, bustle up her wedding dress, have a glass of wine or two and mark the end of the day she has been planning for a year or more. So if you and your groom have to get dance lessons for you, him or the entire wedding party, go for it! It’s a decision that you won’t regret!
